I am looking for a conifer which will be happy in my new perennial bed. I want something skinny, but it can get as tall as it wants. Something with an interesting form, as I will be looking at all the time and its job will be to frame the entrance to the yard. But it has to be able to handle snow. Sometimes lots.
Good drainage awaits, 8 or more hours of sun. What do you think? I am in zone 6b.

dwarf alberta spruce is very lovely and works most anywhere. If your heart is not absolutley set on conifer, You should try the weeping pussywillow. I have one and I love it. It is now 3 years old and about 3by 4 and a beauty.
I have a weeping pussywillow; I love it. This year I'm planning on putting in some hazel, as I want the branches for the vegetable garden. I will look at the spruce, but I have three HUGE spruces on the property and am looking for something different. Someone suggested a weeping juniper.... someone else a weeping pine.

Do you ever think there are simply too many choices??
You might have a look at the Emerald Cedar. I have two in front of my house and they are nice looking trees - tall but not too wide and keep their form without much pruning. They were here when I moved in almost 7 years ago and haven't changed much in that time.
The Weeping Norway Spruce is an awesome evergreen and makes an excellent specimen plant. Grown on a standard they stay quite small, grow slowly an look totally unique. They are a little pricey though about $200.00.
an alaskan weeping cedar - tall and slender, beautiful. I call it a ballerina tree as it has quite graceful branches
elegant
I bought a Degroots Cedar 2 years ago and it's beautiful and plays nicely with the other plants...Looks a bit like the emerald cedar but a bit more coral like.
