My neighbour is in love with it but she hasn't enough money to buy one, so I'd love to give her a little starter from mine...How?

Yes Mary Lou That is how I did mine. I made four out of one big plant. When you dig it up you will see how the roots are. They come apart easy so you do not have to cut through them. Go for it!

I need to move a hydrangea, a mature, blooming plant. I can wait till fall that's not a problem. Can I divide it? What happens if I cut through the woody roots?

Hi Doris:
Next time cut a piece where you can see the white dots on the stems and put lightly rooting hormone on it for about two inches and then put it in sand with a little of soil mixed in and keep it moist. Your stems in water even if it roots will be very difficult to keep alive after you put it in the ground. It has gotten used to having a lot of water.
There are two easier way of propagating a forsythia, one is like lilac looking around for small shoots coming up around the plant and digging up those or just ground layering the stems. Look at the previous comments in here.
I hope this will help. Our friends maybe know of more ways of doing this. We love to hear of them.

I cut a branch from a forsythia, put it in a jar with water and have been topping it up since May. The leaves are still green but I still don't see any root activity. Does anyone know how long rooting takes? Or is this the wrong way to make a new forsythia?

Erika, look around the Lilac shrub. If you see a new or small shoots coming out of the ground, dig these with some roots attached and plant them where you would like.

Any idea on how to propagate lilac? Live in Cenral Texas and they say it shouldn't do good/well at all here, but when I moved into this house 2 years ago I found a lilac bush and nursed it back. to life. I now would like to get some more in different areas of the yard. Thank you for any help.
