For those of us who go organic!

Welcome to my Organic world! We have a 60 acre property that was a former cattle ranch and been in my husbands family for over 100 years! The challanges and joys of going organic are many! We live everyday knowing that our 6 year old has to deal with the choices we are making right now. We hope that he is learning a valuble lifestyle for our planets future health.

We are newbies to the owrld of organis getting started about 2 years ago and comitting to complete organic this year. We compost, keep chickens and ducks for organic pest control and mobil fertilization units, keep goats as green grass mowers, recycle EVERYTHING, repourpose items found around the ranch whenever possible, we don't use any chemical pestacides or herbacides on our property and work to reduce the "things" we buy to cut back on usless consumerism. We are glad you are here to add to our discussion and find some new solutions! Thanks! Erin & Eric

I planted a new carrot raised bed

I decided that a very large round water trough that was stitting out here on the farm rotting would make the perfect carrot bed for the winter! It had holes rotting through the bottom so we just put…

Growing real veggies in the shade is a hard one! I have the opposite problem! I have very little shade here on the plains edge. On the Northside of the house I have a little lip that I have planted my elephant ears, Berginia and ferns. But thats it!ha! hyrangias, I wish! hosta, PLEASE! lol! Good to hear from you Pat, keep us posted on the progress!

Seems like everyone in Port Townsend has been Green and Organic since the '60's.... Lots of local organic farming and a great Co-op... I am trying, in my small space that is mostly shade, to grow real food. This has been my second summer. I have raspberries, blueberries, tomatoes, potatoes, salad greens, flowers and herbs. Slugs and bugs abound, so much shade the beautiful lush and prolific tomatoes never ripened. Potatoes were great, berries very few but good. Coming on Fall, I'm trying rooty things to see how that goes, and learning about protecting and pruning the plants/
