Mountain-ash sawfly 5 Replies

I have two mountain ash trees and just noticed today they are both covered with orange caterpillars. Here is a picture. How do you get rid ot them. They are eating my trees fast.

Comment by Susan Surman on May 18, 2011 at 1:45pm: Yes, they will get enough sunlight. I'll try that. I use knee-highs for, squash, cantaloupe, for large watermelon I use panty part of a pantyhose, for smaller one like the "sugar baby" I can use the legs. I grow vertically and they are great for supporting heavy fruits or veggies and it helps to tie them to the fence.

Comment by catherine on May 18, 2011 at 7:52am: I just placed knee-highs on my cabbage plants - hoping to deter those nasty cabbage moths. I was wondering though, will the sun be able to penetrate the panty hose. I chose a "nude" color, but it still looks weird.
