Wonderful use of what could have been a difficult area. It never ceases to amaze me how gardeners cope with the space they are given.

Well, the rain came and then the sun, but the nights are still cool. Everything is growing well, both flowers and veg. Had to move a row of rose bushes, so put them by the fence, in the veg. garden. This way I can enjoy them while I work and they wi…

Here we are in July already. The veg. garden has all been weeded and planted, things seem to be doing o.k., no excess of bugs, except earwigs and they seem to be busy with the weeds I leave on the carpet strips between the raised beds. The peas are…

I hear you.. First my husband broke his leg snowmobiling then he came down with Blastomycosis.. Supposedly he got it from wheeling the dirt I dug (for my garden) along the key river in a wheelbarrow. Both the early summer and his recovery has been q…

I have a horrible weed, red sorrel. It showed up last year from who knows where and is spreading like wildfire, by runner and seed. Yesterday I cleaned it out of one perennial bed but know for sure it will reappear. Does anyone know how to get rid o…

Planted Seeds

I succumbed to the bright sunshine pouring in my front window and planted some Rosemary and 4 kinds of peppers. Both take a long time, so starting this early is not really a problem. I had a beautiful rosemary that I had grown from seed several years ago but an early frost killed it before I could get it into the house. The peppers need a long growing season, and our season here is short, so they will benefit from an early start. I'll move them to the greenhouse when the weather wContinue

Sunshine

This bright, sunny weather, in March is wonderful, but it sure does give one the itch to get into the garden. This is, of course, impossible, as it is still covered in snow and the ice is still on the lake. Still too early to start seeds but one can still plan and dream.

Oops Mary, I have just done the same thing ha ha. Sorry, I didin't see your note to me till now. I am so used to facebook that I forget these other sites work differently.
My garden is in full bloom but I am having some problems with the usual beetles on my lillies and some of my roses have the yellow leaf disease again but the perrenials always do so well.
Last Sunday I went on a tour of gardens in Markham and this year they had some beutiful Heritage homes where they opened up their gardens for the tours. For a fee of $10, we had a four hour tour and it was lovely.

I finally realized that I won't be getting my posts in this season. So I went ahead and planted my grapes in anyways. Gardening is one big experience for me.

Hey Marie Catherine, I wish I had all those trees in my yard. Or are they posts? I've yet to stake and trellis my grapes. Hopefully I'll get to it this weekend.

Hi, how beautiful to live on an Island, you are the second person I met here on Bloom that lives on one. You must grow a lot of different plants. I live in Markham, about 40 mins north of Toronto and I grow mostly flowers in my small suberbian garden but I do grow tomatoes and Jalepenos and I used to try to grow green peppers but as you said, our season ios too short for them. This year I'm growing eggplants for the first time but my Greek neighbours two doors up from me say that the squirrils or the raccoons eat them from their garden. Do you have any tips on how to keep them away? I hear people use cayen pepper around tulips to keep squirrils away, I'm willing to try it.
