RIP Thing... or maybe not?

This spring my 5 year old weeping goat pussy willow, a top grafted Salix caprea 'Pendula' died.  Or so I thought.  I found another weeping pussy willow, not a top grafted caprea but a base grafted one.  I ordered it and it came.  And... Thing came back to life.  There are shoots coming out of the graft.

Is this like the story of the couple who became pregnant after adopting?  ;-)

ps I'd add a picture but for some reason OMB won't load them.

Can You Believe It?

Here it is, almost August and I am already planning next years garden. With all these wonderful pictures floating around the site of "OMG I got to have one of those!" plants I have started to compile a list of favorites.

One of them was of Lauri Clark's Satisfaction Lily Tree.

So off to Brecks Canada's site to find it and, well it's almost time to buy tulips and and and and... you know the drill.... $500.00 imaginary dream… Continue

The end of one season and the beginning of another...

As some of you may know, I run a garden center. It opens in April and closes in July.

Well yesterday the last of the plants went home with their new parents and another garden center season drew to a close. We had an excellent season and I would like to thank all the gardeners out there for supporting all their local garden centers. It is a huge amount of work but so totally enjoyable. I enjoy all my customers, from the new… Continue

So thanks Dirty Girls Gardening, a landscape Company from Skagway Alaska. Their Motto "We Are Always on Our Knees" ;-)

Pamela, Try looking for Siloam Baby Talk or Siloam Baby Doll. In fact anything in the Siloam series are good daylilies to consider. Penny's Worth is a nice small yellow. I just got that one this year. I could go on forever about the mini daylilies as I grow so many. A good small purple is Little Grapette or Barbary Cosair.

Yup, the yellow flower is evening primrose. I'm not a big yellow lover, but the pale yellows and the lemon yellows I really enjoy. I've been seeing a daylily around recently that is pale, soft yellow, so I'm on the hunt for one now!

I'm back! One thing I learned is that i've got to be better at labeling!! The white Clematis that you spoke about is Clematis Recta . The label says it blooms June through August, but for me it blooms in June. Forms a small shrub. Pruning group 3

I've been out in the garden since 7:00 am, trying to beat the heat. Now I'm headed out to try and identify those daylilies and the white Clematis you spoke about. I know it's not Sweet Autumn because it blooms in late May. It also self seeds! I have babies coming up in 2-3 places! I'll get back to you in a bit...hopefully with some answers! Susan =^..^=

Pamela, I'll check out the tags tomorrow and get back to you. I hope they are readable, so often they fade out on me, even with garden "permanent" markers.

Hi again...I saw this little Clematis Albicoma at a wonderful place called Garden in the Woods, in Massachusettes. Incredible source for wildflowers. I had never seen one so small and unusual. So tiny and delicate but surprisingly hardy!
